Tribute to Woody Guthrie

Dear Family, Friends and Fans of Woody Guthrie:
A campaign is now underway to recruit membership, world-wide, for the
Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center in Pampa, Texas.
As has been
noted, "Woody Guthrie was the most important American folk music artist
of the first half of the 20th century". Woody
lived
in Pampa, Texas from 1929-37., worked at the Harris Drug, 320 S. Cuyler
Street in Pampa, the one existing site with connections to Woody's life.
The Harris Drug Store building is being restored as a historical site
in Pampa. A campaign is underway to obrain funds for the
restoration
and to recruit the many Guthrie fans to participate as members in this
effort. Some work has been done on the building, but
much
work remains.
ARCHITEXAS, an
Architecture, Planning and Preservation company in Austin, Texas, was
hired to prepare a Master Plan. The current campaign effort
is to raise $150,000 for the major work that needs to be done.
Therefore, you are invited to particpate in this historical
preservation project as a member and as a contributor. All
donations will be appreciated.
